Vietri on the Sea

Located at the beginning of the Amalfi Coast, the center of the town of Vietri extends over a hill close to the coast, and on its slopes lies the "Marina" area, a seaside village of the town that directly overlooks the sea. Marina di Vietri is one of the most recent beaches on the entire Amalfi Coast. Born in dramatic circumstances, to say the least, in 1954 when a flood hit the town and so the mud and debris rolling downstream made the beach advance by about 100 meters creating a sandy bottom that previously did not exist. The beach is practically divided in two by the Bonea river. On one side in fact there are the bathing establishments while on the other there is the free beach, which anyone can use for free. The boats that take tourists and swimmers on an exciting tour of the Divine depart from the beach of Marina di Vietri. For those interested in ceramics, which is the most important artisanal product of the entire area, there is also the possibility of visiting the Provincial Museum of Ceramics, which is located in Vietri, inside Villa Guariglia.

Situata all'inizio della Costiera amalfitana, il centro dell'abitato vietrese si estende collinarmente a ridosso della costa, ed alle pendici di esso si estende la zona "Marina", borgo marinaro del paese che affaccia direttamente sul mare.

La Marina di Vietri è tra le più recenti spiagge dell’intera Costiera Amalfitana. Nata in circostanze a dir poco drammatiche, nel 1954 quando un’alluvione colpì la cittadina e così il fango e i detriti rotolando a valle fecero avanzare la spiaggia di circa 100 metri creando un fondo sabbioso prima inesistente. La spiaggia è praticamente divisa in due dal fiume Bonea. Da un lato infatti vi sono gli stabilimenti balneari mentre dall’altro c’è la spiaggia libera, della quale chiunque può gratuitamente usufruire. Proprio dalla spiaggia di Marina di Vietri partono le imbarcazioni che accompagnano i turisti e bagnanti in un’emozionante tour della Divina.

Per chi si interessa invece di ceramica, che è poi il prodotto artigianale più importante di tutta l’area, c’è anche la possibilità di visitare il Museo Provinciale della Ceramica, che si trova proprio a Vietri, all’interno di Villa Guariglia.
